Virtual Booth – Chat Integration

Two chat integration options:

  1. Using an embed code (applicable to all chat systems)
    This method does not allow to individually identify your booth visitors.
  2. Using the chat ID (definitely recommended for „tawk.to“ users)
    To this end, the EXPO-IP chat API is used that allows the identification of booth visitors in real time.

Generally, any chat system that provides an embed code can be integrated into the EXPO-IP system. The following step-by-step instructions demonstrate both methods (each using as an example the tool „tawk.to“). Steps 1 through 4 apply to both chat integration options.
For chat systems other than tawk.to, the generation of an embed code may be done differently.

Step 1 (applicable to both chat integration options)
Set up a (free) tawk.to account (https://www.tawk.to).

When first establishing a tawk.to chat, you will be asked to provide the name of the exhibition your booth is part of as well as the exhibition URL.

Step 2 (applicable to both chat integration options)
Log in to tawk.to (https://dashboard.tawk.to/login).
Step 3 (applicable to both chat integration options)
Set up a chat widget according to the tawk.to instructions.
Step 4 (applicable to both chat integration options)
Clock on the settings symbol (gear wheel) in the talk.to menu bar.
Step 5 (applicable only to option 1, chat integration with embed code)
Copy the widget code.
Step 6 (applicable only to option 1, chat integration with embed code)

On the EXPO-IP platform, click on the pencil symbol to the right of the booth where the chat is to be integrated. Click on the tab „Settings.“
Step 7 (applicable only to option 1, chat integration with embed code)

Please select the option „Other chat“ and paste the embed code into the field „Chat Integration.“

Integrating tawk.to chats using the EXPO-IP API to identify booth visitors in real time

Applicable only to option 2, using chat ID


 

The EXPO-IP platform offers besides the integration of any live chat with the use of an embed code also the option to integrate the tawk.to chat with the use of the EXPO-API. Using this method allows you to identify your booth visitor in real time without the visitor having to join the chat. You can not only take note of which person from which company is currently visiting your booth – you can also start the communication with your visitor proactively in a personalized fashion.

Please follow the steps 1-4 as described above. Steps 5, 6 and 7 differ from the instructions for option 1.

Step 5 (applicable to option 2, integration of tawk.to with EXPO-IP API)

Copy the chat ID.

 

Steps 6 and 7 (applicable to option 2, integration of tawk.to with EXPO-IP API)

On the EXPO-IP platform, click on the pencil symbol to the right of the booth where the chat is to be integrated. Click on the tab „Settings.“

Under „Please select chat tool,“ check tawk.to and paste the previously copied chat ID into the field „Chat Integration.“
